Script to count host build numbers

Hi,

 

Our environment has a mixture of hosts on different build numbers. I'm trying to write a script that will show a count of how many hosts are running each build number. That way I can export it to Excel and make a pie graph to show the spread of versions.

 

Using the ImportExcel module, I can create a pie graph but it counts every single result as a new value to graph

 

This code "PieChart -title "Test" (Get-VMHost | Select Version, Build)" generates a graph like below

 

 

If I could spit out counts like in the table below, I'd be able to create a Pie Chart like this:

Google Chrome on Horizon View Windows 10 desktops is very fuzzy

We are testing Windows 10 in our VDI environment where we use Horizon View 7.3.2 currently and we have noticed that Google Chrome is very fuzzy on Windows 10 desktops.  I've tried overriding the dpi scaling options and allowing the application, system or system (enhanced) to see if any of those fix the issue (which it does on my non-vdi Windows 10 desktops) but it doesn't seem to work within the Horizon View environment.  Does anyone have any suggestions or a fix for this in Horizon View?

Cant view admin console after Horizon 7.4 upgrade

Hello,

 

We are attempting to upgrade a few test servers from Horizon View 7.0.3 to 7.4.0 by using the upgrade process without a full reinstallation.  The upgrade itself appears to be successful yet access to the web console/admin console does not appear to work.  Various browsers produce various errors all suggesting the website on the upgraded server is not available.

 

The best clue we have detected so far has to do with certs.  We have tried multiple cert configurations but are not able to access the admin console including:

- Generate new self-signed cert, then upgrade

- Remove self-signed cert, then upgrade

- Generated new signed cert from internal CA, then upgrade

 

The logs on the server look like this:

vCenter Web Client 6.5 incorrect memory active memory usage

Hello,

 

Good day!

Don't know if there is already a thread opened,however would like to check within the group

if VMware already has a fix for the incorrect memory active memory usage alarm in version 6.5

 

aside from turning off the alarm.

 

Active memory is not the same as the guest OS active usage in perf mon

Invoke Vm Script with Multi line Text Doesnt work

Hi,

 

Am trying to use the below command . The txt file is not created in the temp dir.

 

PowerCLI C:\> $scripttext=@'

What are .nnaxxx .vSphere-HA and vmkdump folders in datastore ?

Hi,

 

We are using ESXi 6.

 

When I browse a datastore, I find that there are some folders that doesn't created for Virtual Machines.

 

May I seek your advice what are those folders for

1) .naa.xxxx

2) .vSphere-HA

3) vmkdump ?

 

From my understaning, vmkdump is for ESXi Host dump files when it crashes.  How an ESXi Host choose which datastore to store its dump ?  Can I find out which ESXi Host is using this folder ?

VMware Horizon 7.3.1 + Instant Clones Windows 10 LTSB (1607 14393.1884) + App Volumes 2.13.1 Writable Volume (template_uia_plus_profile.vmdk (2.12.1.39)

 

We have a strange problem with non-admin users using Firefox 57 (installed by users themselves as user app). When they open https sites they have such error

Also F12 Developer Tools don't work and show just blank panel. Google Chrome works without any problems

 

Any Ideas?

I am trying to setup vSAN Assessment Tool on physical server.  I get thru the first 2 steps ok,  I manually installed the vib files on customer server, and the vib service is not running.

Any ideas on what to do?

Finding the created date of my VMDK file

Can someone help me querying the created date of my VMDK files. I could somehow query the last modified date of my VMDK files; however, I don't see any decent way of finding the Created time stamp of the files that belong my VMs.

 

I have to query my VMs to find the recently added hard disks for an audit purpose.

List VMs in datastore that is not in inventory

Hi Guys

 

PowerCLI rookie here, so sorry for stupid questions.

 

I’m trying to clean up a bunch of singehost with local datastores. So I need a script that can output a list of virtual machine files on a datastore that is not being used by VMs in the inventory. One of the problem is that the files on the datastore, is not all ways named exactly the same as the VM’s in the inventory.

 

Been looking at this, but I think the term “orphaned” is ‘sent what I think it is:

Create / update property on virtualMachine Entity - vCO Help

I'm trying to update a Custom property of a vCAC-provisioned VM using the subject Out-of-the-Box Workflow which is included in the vCAC Plugin Extensibility Package. Manually selecting a vCAC Host in the Common parameters window is not a problem. What I can't do is select/input anything in the virtualMachineEntity Field. Nothing appears in the Chooser/popup window and no data appears regardless of what I may enter in the vCAC:Entity Filter Box. Should this Field auto-populate with some type of data or is there a specific string I need to enter to target my VM?

 

 

 

Am I using the correct Workflow? I'd like to be able to replace the propertyValue of a Custom property of a specific/existing VM.

Hi,  currently i'm doing house keeping on VC and i believe there is some VM which did't not in use or ADD to inventory.

 

this vm i believe still keep in some datastore without using, is the anyway to find out all VM which not in use on VC? (not added to inventory)

How can CentOS Linux guest communicate to outside?

I am new to VMWare. Currently using workstation pro 12 and set up few VMs. I setup a CentOS 7 Linux VM and want to use Putty to ssh it from host machine which is Wndows 10. But somehow I could not get it to work. I believe I might miss some network configurations here.

 

- I use NAT for VM network set up.

- When I run ifconfig on Linux guest VM, get this:

 

Can't use Putty to connect to it as no IP address here. Please advise.

How do I enable it?  I've tried disabling the isolation options, am using v6.5, but not having any luck so far to get some plain text clipboard action happening.

New PowerCLI Script to remove the VDI VM .

Can someone help to automate below task:

 

I am using linked clone and full clone VDI pool. A VDI is persistently assigned to the user's on first logon. When the user's leave the company the AD user account is disabled or deleted but the desktops are still assigned to this user account.  I would like to run a script once in a week that can find and remove the VM of the user's that don't work in company anymore. I like to do be below:

 

1. Compare the list of AD accounts and the VDI users.

2. Generate list of VDI VM's and user's assigned which can be removed from the VDI pool and the VCenter.

3. Remove the VDI VM permanently

 

So far I am able to generate the list of user names and VDI VM's that can be removed.

But don't know how to remove or unassigned the user from the connection server.

Instant Clone VM stuck in Deleting ( 2 different pools)

Sorry for the post and i'm sure this is something simple but i have tried what i can to get this Stuck VM to go away.  i am running View 7.0.1.  I have one VM in an Instant Clone pool that is stuck in the deleted state. i tried to restart the management service with no luck.  Tried to power off the vm in vCenter with no luck.  Tried to reset the vm in vCenter with the same outcome.  I see a lot of info out there for Linked Clones but not much about Instant Clones.  Any suggestions are welcome.  Thanks
