Unable to create the installation medium - Sierra Host, High Sierra Guest

$

Just updated to Fusion 10.0.1 and I'm trying to setup a High Sierra Guest on my Sierra machine. On installation I get an error stating that it's "Unable to create the installation medium".

I recall seeing something similar with Fusion 8 and the Sierra developer previews, but as High Sierra is apparently supported as I guest I'm surprised that I'm getting this error.

How do you install a High Sierra Guest, before I installed a Sierra Guest and then upgraded but surely that should no longer be necessary.

VMWare Remote Console Utility?

I am looking for a utility to organize and manage VMWare Remote Console connections outside the VSphere Web Client.

My scenario is this:  I want to setup a Test Lab with no IP connectivity to my Corporate LAN.  Complete Isolation.  I will have a need to connect to each machine through the Remote Console connection but wanted to avoid the need to log into VSphere Web GUI to accomplish this.  I was hoping someone knew of a utility that could connect to a VCenter Server or ESXi Host itself and display a listing of each available VM in the Host or VCenter.  This would eliminate the need to setup complicated routing and what not and allow for a simple isolated test lab environment.

I appreciate any feedback and direction that anyone would like to share.

Something Like SolarWinds VM Console is just shy of the mark.  If it incorporated a connect to console option it would be a great soltution.

Custom display resolution in remote desktop - not possible?

$

I'm connecting from a HDPI client to Windows 10 desktop (Horizon 7.4). My local resolution is 3000x2000. What I want is the resolution of 1500x1000 in the remote desktop so it is usable over WAN. Is that even possible? NoDisplaySettingsPage is set to False in GPO. I have access to the "Advanced Display Properties" in the remote Windows 10 desktop. When I try to change the desktop's resolution to something lower than "3000x2000", it blanks for a second just reverts back (WTF!). Is that even possible to lower the resolution in the desktop without changing it on the client side?

What does the "Allow display scaling" option in View client even supposed to do? I tried to connect with and without "Allow display scaling" and there is no difference. This whole thing is rather infuriating. Why is it so hard, VMware? How am I supposed to use Horizon desktops from the HDPI client over WAN?? /rant

Deploying NSX Controller 6.3.3 - no ip assigned

I am having trouble deploying first NSX controller - for some reason it fails to assign IP address:

lab.PNG

After timeout controller gets deleted by NSX Manager

2017-11-08 03:51:29.591 GMT  INFO taskScheduler-7 RetryExec:97 - I/O exception (java.net.NoRouteToHostException) caught when processing request to {s}->https://10.10.x.212:443: No route to host (Host unreachable)

Network is fully operational - I was able to access NSX Manager from the test VM on the same network where NSX controller is getting deployed.

Also, I am unable to log into controller via VM console with admin and password I've assigned during deployment.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thank you

Restrict Horizon Access to corporate devices

Hey guys,

I wonder what's the best way to restrict Horizon Access to corporate devices?

In other words, how to prevent users from connecting to Horizon via their private or even a public computer.

Is it possible with the UAG or Security Server?

kind regards,

Windows Server 2012 R2 Bad Performance CPUs.

I'm using VMWare Client to increment CPUs number on the virtual machine, I have 8 Virtual sockets and 2 number of cores per socket. But. the "taskmgr" of my windows server 12 Std. says 1 socket, 2 virtual processor. I restarted the virtual machine, but It isn't changing. On the Device Manager, I can see 16 processors, however, on the task manager it shows only 1  socket and 2 virtual processors running and my CPU is always at 98% on usage.

How can I fix that?

Lets me add one observation.

In the same configuration in Windows 2008 R2 Std. This does not happen. See imagen. Windows W2k8

Does VMware VSAN require all nodes to have the same hardware configurations, and be the same brand?

What are the pre-requisites for a 3  node configuration

I used  VMware vCenter Converter Standalone to convert a physical machine with dual boot (win 7 on C: , Win Xp on D) to a virtual one.

I logged in the Win 7 and converted the machine. Playing  this  in VMware Workstation 12 Player, i will have two options either to login to the  win 7   or the XP. The Win 7 will work perfectly. When I chose the Win xp , the Win xp booting start showing the logo and then few seconds later I get the blue screen of death with error:

STOP: 0x0000007B (0xba4cb524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).

Can you help with this please? any thing I need to change in the .vmx file to get it work for xp as it does for win 7?

Edge ECMP and Reverse Path Filtering

$

Challenge:

I have multiple customers running NSX on ECMP and below is the typical deployment for ECMP

Ping between DLR to Edge, Edge to Core works and dynamic routing is established.

However, applications does not seem to work and the customer is wondering what is the issue.

In ECMP, there would be asymmetric routing and stateful services cannot work in asymmetric traffic.

So the first obvious thing that need to be checked is firewall on NSX Edge, I did helped them to check the firewall on all Edge and it is already disabled

So what would be the issue?

Solution:

Turned out the RPF (Reverse Path Filter) in the Edges are dropping some traffic. We checked this by logging into the NSX Edge CLI and use the show rpfstats command.

The show rpfilter also shows the reverse path filter configuration for each vNICs.

To fix this, we go to every Edges that participate in ECMP routing and changed the vNIC RPF settings to Loose or Disabled

Edge Routing Connectivity Issues

VMs intermittent loses network connectivity.

Hi,

We have a strange problem/bug in our new VMware cluster.

Environment

BL460 gen10 with HP FlexFabric 20Gb 2-port 650FLB Adapter

HPE C7000 chassis

vSphere 6.0 (build 6775062)

ESX01,ESX03 and ESX03 are in chassi01

ESX04,ESX05 and ESX are in chassi02

VMs intermittent loses network connectivity.

When this happens the “remedy” is to migrate the specific VM to some other host in the cluster.

So far it seems that it doesn’t matter if I migrate the VM to a VMhost inside the same chassis or to the other chassis , just a migration seems to solve the issue. (I can’t migrate it back to the same host though)

I have around 150 VMs in this cluster and so far I’ve had issues with 5-6 of them , completely random.

They could be on any of my VMhosts in the cluster.

Haven’t created any support case with VMware or HPE yet , this forum post is my first advance to tackle this problem.

All firmware is updated to the latest from HPE

Someone who have seen similar issues?

Regards

Johan

Windows 10: Fall Creators Build 1709 Experiences

Yes, I know it's not yet supported...but I'm curious how your testing is going with the new Win10 Fall Creators Build 1709. (Insider Fast Ring)

We've played around with it, but cannot get composer to successfully finish provisioning.  We think it's due to all of the new Security Features backed into the OS.  We will slowly disable them until we are successful.  How's your testing going?

add custom property to blueprint when it gets created

Hi,

I'd like to have custom property added to each blueprint when it gets created.

I've created the event subscription and duplicated the "create / update property to blueprint" workflow.

The workflow triggers and runs.

I can't figure out what to do next... Where do I specify the property name and value? Tried different options in the "presentation" tab, but no property gets added to the blueprint?

Anyone able to point me into the right direction?

Thanks

Andre

Intel Sighting

There are so many postings and discussions about Meltdown and Spectra. They are keep getting updated.

We have applied the early release VMware patches and BISO update for E5-2699 V4 CPU.

I think there is an issue with that patches based on VMware KB 552345

1 Do we have to add cpuid.7.edx = "----:00--:----:----:----:----:----:----" to workaround in addition to the patches?

2. Do we have to power down/power up the VMs?

Vmware ESXi Server reboot

I have a server (HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9, Intel Xeion CPU E5-2609v3 with 2.04 TB) running VMWare ESXi 5.5.0 with 2 VMs. I've been having issue of sudden reboot every once in a while. I've gone through VMware Knowledge Base (Determining why an ESXi/ESX host was powered off or restarted (1019238)) but nothing comes up.

I guess my question is - can I get some sort of hint in the vmksummary or vmkernel log files to find the issues ? I've gone through those files but nothing pops-out of the ordinary before the reboot happens.

What are the places to look in the log files ?

Touchscreen support for guest using touchscreen Win 8.1 host

$

Hi, I'm currently running WMware 7 to create an SCO guest machine, and WM Player 3 to run it.

However both of these do not support touchscreen of the host. The host is a Windows 8.1 pro computer but when I run Ubuntu in the guest, all my touches are not responding as touchscreen but like a mouse. Meaning I drag my finger up and down across the screen but the cursor is elsewhere but going up and down.

When i use Virtualbox the touch response is okay but I want to keep using WMware because Virtualbox has other problems (VMnet networking)

I think the version that supports touchscreen is WMware 11 or 12 (latest) but these don't support my computer. My computer is running on Atom Z2760 at 1.8 GHz and it doesn't support 64 bit.

In the WM player download page Major Version 5 and 6 it says VMware Player 5.0.4 for Windows 32-bit and 64-bit but it doesn't support 32 bit (or maybe it does but not on this cpu?)

What can I do?

Dropping packets when pinging host (RedHat 7.2) from guest (RedHat 6.2 or Windows 10 VM)

Dropping packets when pinging host (RedHat 7.2) from guest (RedHat 6.2 or Windows 10 VM)

Using VMware Workstation Pro 12.5.7

I've tried two different configurations and receive the same results:

1) Host OS: Red Hat 7.2, Guest OS: Red Hat 6.2

2) Host OS: Red Hat 7.2, Guest OS: Windows 10

In both cases when I ping the Host from the Guest I'm losing an average of 26% of the pings as "Request Timed Out"

In both cases the Guest can ping other machines with no loss and pings *from* the Host to the Guest have no loss.

There are multiple Ethernet adapters on the Host machine each on different subnets (2.2.2.x, 131.1.1.x, etc) and the Guest needs to use 2 in one configuration and 3 different subnets in the other one.

I've set up a custom Bridged vmnets for each network adapter on the host, linking each one to a specific Ethernet adapter.

For instance, if the Host's eth0 is 2.2.2.2 and the Guest is configured as 2.2.2.4 then I created vmnet0 and bridged it to eth0.

When pinging 2.2.2.2 (Host adapter) from with the Guest OS I'm getting the packet losses.

Any thoughts?

VMware Tools doe not see that it is updated?

I have a collection of Mac OS X guests.  I am starting them for the first time in Fusion 10.1.1.  For Mac OS 10.11 and newer the update goes as expected and Fusion see the tools as up to date. For Mac OS 10.10 and less Fusion does not see the update it made and still shows the "Update VMware Tools" menu option.  Is Fusion 10.1.1 not installing the right version of tools in the older Mac OS, or is Fusion installing the right version of tools but looking for a newer version anyway?
