New Twist on "Unsuccessful - Test connection failed: The vSphere agent does not exist or may not be running." when registering an endpoint

$

0

Anyone every see this?

We setup a HA vRA 7.3 installation.  So that means two vRA appliances, two Proxy Agents, two DEM workers, two DEM orchestrators, two IMS, two model manager webs, etc...

When the Proxy agent was configured in the vRA Configuration Wizard, one of two vCenter had a misspelled Endpoint Name.

To lay it out:

Proxy Agent #1 on Windows Server #1

vCenter:               vcenter1.ad.local

Endpoint Name:   vcenter1.ad.local

Proxy Agent #2 on Windows Server #2

vCenter:               vcenter1.ad.local

Endpoint Name:   vcetner1.ad.local  <----- TYPO! should have been "vcenter1.ad.local"

When you go to the vRA 7.3 default tenant -> Infrastructure -> Endpoints and attempt to add the vcenter1.ad.local Endpoint, you get:

"Unsuccessful - Test connection failed: The vSphere agent does not exist or may not be running."

IF, on the other hand, you enter the typo for the Endpoint name ("vcetner1.ad.local"), the test connection actually works!

Even after we uninstalled the Proxy Agent from BOTH servers and manually reinstalled them with the correct EndPoint names!!!

(So that means that uninstalling and reinstalling the Proxy Agents doesn't fix the issue...)

Transport (VMDB) error -45: Failed to connect to peer process

Hi,

I am using ESXi 5.5, build 1281650.

I am having the problem of not being able to start any VM's without getting the following message

Transport (VMDB) error -45: Failed to connect to peer process.

Failed to power on '/vmfs/volumes/51a6288d-06384dd1-6fd5-089e01a03cd5/test/test.vmx'.

There are currently 5 VM's. 1 of them is running and it is fine, but I am afraid to turn it off worrying it may not come back up again.

The above error happens even when i create new machines.

I have in total 3 of these ESXi installation, all running on the same build and same hardware.

Only difference that I can see right now is that int he server summary under Genreal there is no Image Profile, it is blank. My w other working servers show ESXI-T.T.0-1331820-standard. I do not know if this means anything

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Workstation Player installed on Win10 does not run any guest VMs at all

I have several VMs that were installed with Workstation Player on win7. I upgraded to win10 on my home desktop so the same host hardware. I installed the same version of Workstation Player on win10 and now every machine runs incredibly slow or just not at all. This is very frustrating and I'm considering going back to win7 or leaving vmware all together. I have the same exact hardware and out of the box win10 installed with workstation player 14 installed. This seems like a very standard testing scenario that is not working at all.

I tested this with all types of guests, including win7, win8, win10, ubuntu and esx. Nothing ran nor installed on a fresh machine. I tried putting additional settings in the config.ini file like allowLegacy but that did not help. I installed win10 on another desktop installed the latest workstation and still the same results.

Is anyone else using workstation on win10 having any performance issues? Better yet: does anybody have a fix?

Using EFI instead of BIOS in VM = slow ... why?

$

I have reinstalled a VM and used EFI this time instead of BIOS.

EFI is said to be faster than BIOS when booting. But in EFI mode the VMware logo is displayed for approx. 5-10 seconds, thereby deducting the rapidity of EFI.

Why is the VMware boot logo displayed for such an utterly long time? Is there some option available to speed this up?

vRA 7.3 with Amazon Endpoint

Hello Folks,

I am trying to configure Amazon EC2 endpoint on my vRA 7.3.

I have deployed a DEM Worker VM with internet access. (no proxy)

I have already created an IAM User with Administrative Permissions and I got its Access Keys and Secret access key.

I used the Access Keys and Secret Access Key which I have created to create the Amazon EC2 Endpoint on the vRA.

When I start the data collection I got a failed state and when I checked the logs I got those errors below.

Failed to run Amazon EC2 data collection. Error: AWS was not able to validate the provided access credentials.

Workflow 'AmazonEC2EndpointDataCollection' failed with the following exception:

AWS was not able to validate the provided access credentials

Inner Exception: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.

I really don't know whatelse I can do to fix this.

I have already changed the access and secret keys but it didn't work.

Any help?!?

App Volumes 2.1.3.1

Horizon 7.3.2

Non-persistent VDI: Windows 10 1709 - No writable

App volumes agent: 2.1.3.1

Has anyone got the above combination working?  Using the C2R install method for O365 subscription and Visio & Project volume license installs successfully on a persistent VDI with no Appstack, but when provisioned to an Appstack and assigned to a non-persistent VDI user, Visio and Project request sign-in credentials when run.

OSPP.VBS /dstatus returns ”No installed product keys detected”, so it’s impossible to activate against our KMS.

Most of the posts i read about this error don't apply here but still have this error for 1 user only.  This happens on his desktop and iPad.  Here is what i do know...

it happens on any computer he tries to connect to.  I can log in as another user to access the same pool and it works fine.  He can log into any other desktop or application pool and it works fine.  It is just this user on this pool.  Also tried to remove entitlements and reapply them but no joy.

Tried using all protocols with no joy.  (Blast, PCOIP, and RDP)

Anyone have any thoughts on where to look at this??  Going to look at teh logs now and will post info as i get it.

Unable to install VMware Workstation 14 Pro. Issue happens with Workstation 12.5 Pro as well (error code: 29142)

I am trying to install VMWare Workstaioin Pro 14 onto a Windows 10 Pro machine. This is a brand new installation of Windows 10 Pro, as well as Workstation. The installation goes good until the VMWare Workstation shortcut appears on the screen. The error then shows up which says (The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with the package. The error code is 29142). When I select OK the installation roles back and removes Workstation.

This also happens when I tried Workstation Pro 12.5. However, when I tried an earlier version, version 10, the installation worked good and Workstation was installed.

I've tried the following with no success:

- downloaded fresh installs from VMWare in case there was a problem with the package

- uninstalled all virus protection

- disabled firewalls

- disabled UAC

I can't find anything about this error on the internet.

If anyone has seen this error or could give me some guidance I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks

Problem migrate PSC embedded to external PSC - Certificate problem SSL 6.5U1 - HELP!!!!!

HI

I have a "VCENTER" which updates from 6.0U3 to 6.5U1, all right, now I need to outsource the PSC to a new one which is already connected to an SSO domain, I fulfill the requirement that it be the same domain "vsphere.local" and the same SITE, the problem is that it does not try to do anything since there is a problem with the certificate which I could not resolve.

Cluster Error: vMotion not supported by host

$

Hi!

I have a strange error:

When I try to vmotion a running VM from one cluster to another (Compute and Storage vMotion) the following errors are displayed:

The "Destination" host 'hostname' does not support vMotion.

com.vmware.vim.vpxd.vmcheck.vmotionNotSupportedByHost

The "Source" host 'hostname' does not support vMotion.

com.vmware.vim.vpxd.vmcheck.vmotionNotSupportedByHost

If the VM is powered off, it can be migrated.

Between the hosts of a cluster, a live migration is working well.

I'm sure that I have migrated VMs in the past sucessfully. The only thing I have done in the past was the update from VCSA 5.5 U3b to VCSA 6.0 U3.

I have tried all the suggestions from KB1003734 but nothing seems to be wrong. VMotion and DRS work perfectly, only to another cluster fails.

Understanding and troubleshooting vMotion (1003734) | VMware KB

Does anyone has an idea?

Otherwise I will have to open an official support request.

"Reset Applikation to default" did not work for me

Hello, I have a UEM environment 9.3 and use Horizon Ver 7.3.2 with Instant Clone and Mandatory Profiles. When a user logs on for the first time, profile data is stored properly. But if I reset an application (in my example the settings for the "Ineternet Explorer" to default) will be stored in future applications of the user no more profile data. Even if I want to import the backup from a certain point in time, they will be reset and will not be recreated in the future.

The message "Config file is marked as mandatory - skipping export" appears in the log. How and where can I pick up this mark?

Thanks for support

I need to parse data, which just got a lot when I found the esxcli --formatter=keyvalue,

which for example gives me data like this.

The data I treat as a String

Question: Can I always assume each line is terminated by a single '\n'   (0x0A) ?

If not, what usable can I use to separate the lines when I parse the data?

Writable Volume with Office 2010

We have Office 2010 locally installed on the VDI base.  Users with writable profiles will often have issues with Office applications not being licensed.  To fix it we have to delete the writable profile.  It usually happens after patching the VDI.  Are there any other locations that should be excluded in the snapvol.cfg file besides %ProgramFiles\Microsoft Office?

Kernel panic in OSX guest on Fusion 10.0.1 when configured for 3 or more CPU's

$

I have had a lot of kernel panics when booting OSX guests if I configure 3 or more cpus.  It never panics with 1 or 2 cpus, rarely happens with 3 cpus, and almost always happens with 4 or more cpus.  Stragely it does eventually boot after many failed attempts.

I don't see the problem on an ESXi server so I'm guessing it may point to a hardware problem on my laptop (Late 2016 15" MBP w/ touchbar), but the machine passes all Apple hardware diagnostics.  Is it possible this a known problem with Fusion?  Is it possible to set cpu affinity to prevent Fusion from using certain cpu cores?  I believe I have a directory full of boot failure logs but I forget where they are written.  Should I attach a bunch of them?

Thanks in advance!

Edit:  The same behavior occurs on Fusion 10.1.0 as well as 10.1.1.  It appears that several other people experience the same issue, so it may indeed be a bug in Fusion.

Intel dual port 82599EB cards not getting detected properly

I have ESXi 5.0 FREE version; works great except this one issue I cannot resolve.

I have 2x Intel NICs, 10GE dual port 82599EB.

Issue: only first 1st port of the card is getting detected and available through vSphere client. I checked this by matching the MAC addresses.

From ESXi CLI the network list shows 2 1G ports (which is fine), and 2 10G ports (which should be 4)

If I look at PCI list of devices, you shall see all 6 (2x 1G and 4x 10G showing up there).

I updated the driver via CLI, using the following VIB file from VMware's site:
Intel_bootbank_net-ixgbe_3.9.13-1OEM.500.0.0.472560.vib
So what is the issue, could someone share? I am a new user to VMware (1 week).
Is it a license (because it is free) issue? Or driver? Or user error?
Appreciate any leads, I am stuck and it is now starting to impact a rollout; it is making VMware look not so cool right now.

M10 and VM profile placement/utilization

I'm trying to see if it's possible to set the M10 card to fully consume a single GPU (with like profiles) before assignment to another.  I have Horizon environment where in order to get the best utilization and balance across 4 hosts, it's necessary for the VM's to not spread across the 4 on a single card, but rather consume all the resources of a single GPU before allocating to the next.

Here's the issue I'm seeing:

I have 13 VM's using profile 4q and ~40 VM's using 0b.  The host environment consist of 4 hosts each with an M10.

So that's 32G per server, 128G total.

The 13 4q machines account for 52G and the 40 account for 20G.

The problem is if the pool with the 4q machines starts up 1st, it will distribute them across all the cards/gpu's only leaving about 3 available positions for the 0b profile VMs.

If I can config the cards, to use up a GPU before consuming another, then distribution can significantly more efficient.
