Any updates on the release of 3.5?  I'd really like to start testing Horizon 6.  I see there's an article on VMware's site about it, so it must be in use...

Thanks,
Greg

Upgrading VMware View Agent from 5.2 to 5.3 causes agent to become unreachable in Horizon Administrator.

Short of the long I was unable to update several agents to 5.3 becuase the 5.2 msi couldn't be found.

I followed the directions on this page (VMware KB: UpgradingVMware View Agent and View Composer fails with the error: The feature you are trying to use is o…) and from there installed the 5.3 agent.

This worked on 3 test systems. When I went live 2 agents broke. I can RDP but can't use the Client to connect and get a response that tells me the resource isn't available.

I looked in Horizon View Admin and they are listed as agent unreachable, pairing state, in pairing.

I've done the following.

Uninstalled the 5.3 agent.

Uninstalled the tools.

Reinstalled both.

Removed them from the pool inventory and added them back.

These are Win7 systems.

Any help would be very appreciated.

12 GB RAM is "Not Enough Physical Memory" for a 2 GB Virtual Machine?

$

I run VMware Player 6.0.3 on 64-bit Windows 8.1. My host computer has 12 GB of physical memory and my virtual machine uses 2 GB of memory. And yet, I cannot start my virtual machine because VMware says "not enough physical memory is available to power on this virtual machine with its configured settings."

According to Windows Task Manager, only 15% of my physical memory is reserved for currently running processes. So how is it possible that I don't have enough RAM to run my virtual machine?

vSphere Web Client SUCKs so bad that my experience managing and supporting VMware has turn to SH**!

Yes - that's what I said - this has gone far enough and its time the user community took a stand to let VMware know how horrible the web client is, it is tantamount to my worst user interface experience in 20 years of IT.

Attention VMware - this is really simple - all the money you wasted developing this could have been spent in other areas.  you are forcing GARBAGE on your customer base, and for that you will eventually crash and burn, its only a matter of time.  Hasn't the thousands upon thousands of posts about this sunk in yet??  Hello?

Purpose of this post is simple and obvious...  please refrain from your A** kissing pitch about cloud this and that... don't need to hear it.    and I could care less about managing a complex infrastructure from an android or ipad, its ridiculous to expect someone to squeeze the mountains of information that needs to be at your finger tips quickly to efficiently manage a VMware infrastructure on a tiny screen...

If I wasn't totally pissed off with having to use this client I wouldn't have posted this VENTING..

throttling Alerts

Hi,

I am using Hyperic 4.6.6 and I am trying to use following feature but I could not find this option in my administration page. Could someone help?

Set a Notification Throttle

Available only in vFabric Hyperic

You can configure the Hyperic Server to throttle back alert notifications in the event of an alert storm. You configure the maximum number of notifications that Hyperic will issue within a fifteen second interval. When the threshold is reached, Hyperic stops sending individual alert notifications, and instead, sends a summary of alert activity to  designated recipients every ten minutes. When the volume of notifications falls below the specified threshold, Hyperic resumes sending individual notifications.

Notification throttling is disabled by default. You configure it on the HQ Server Settings page, available from the Administration tab.

VMware migration from USB to RAID array

Current configuration: HP N54L Microserver, P410 RAID card, 3 partitions, 1 VMware datastore each.

VMware runs from a USB stick, installed from VMware-ESXi-5.5.0-1331820-HP-5.72.27-Feb2014.iso.

Datastore1 contains VMs.  Datastore3 contains a data drive for one of the VMs.  Datastore2 is unused.

Can I install VMware from a current HP-specific image to the partition currently containing Datastore2 without loosing my VMs on Datastores 1 and 3?

Thank you!

Convert VC:VM to vCloud:VM

Hi,

To get the vCloud object from the vCenter one my idea was to use the VC:virtualmachine.name output and then get the vCloud ID within the () and use this with queryservices to find the vCloud object.

Problem is that VC:virtualmachine.name strips away the () so only the plain VM name is returned.

Anyone know if it is possible to change the behavior of this, or another way to get the VC object full name?

Thanks!

A problem was encountered while registering the provider

Display message if LUN in storage cluster doesnt have enough room

$

I'm building a script to automate some builds, the current enviornment uses storage clusters. Sometimes I run into the issue that when servers are built they have more storage than the LUN SDRS gives it and it causes it to fail adding the storage. I'd like to have the script identify when the LUN it tries to put on is full and then assign the addtional VHD's to another LUN.

Is there a way to display the LUN it's going onto in the storage cluster so I could display a message similar to:

'The VM is trying to put 200Gb onto a LUN with only 100Gb Free. Moving additional storage to another LUN'

Is this possible?

HP DL360 G8 ESXi 5.5.0 189274 PSOD LINT1 NMI, Sensor Issues, iLO 4 Firmware predating 1.51,

Hello All,

I thought I'd post this little tidbit for anyone who happens to start wandering down the rabbit hole.

We had 2 Hosts PSOD with the attached error and after much consternation discovered the root cause was bad firmware on the ILO for the Gen8 Series. HP released a recent fix. Seems that the ILO firmware 1.3x-1.50 will cause spontaneous NMIs. Ours occurred roughly 10 days after reboot.

HP Advisory

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdDetails/?sp4ts.oid=5268291&spf_p.tpst=swdMain&spf_p.prp_swdMain=wsrp-navigationalState%3Didx%253D2%257CswItem%253DMTX_7ac9abd72d554e6fbfff7c6b6c%257CswEnvOID%253D4064%257CitemLocale%253D%257CswLang%253D%257Cmode%253D4%257Caction%253DdriverDocument&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken

Now Here's the added steps

After flashing the ilo, which contrary to what their tech staff will tell you does require a reboot, you will need to confirm some bios changes as well.

Recommended BIOS Changes

a. Set HP power profile to "Maximum Performance".(Power Management Options -> HP Power Profile ->Maximum Performance)

b. Set HP power regulator to "HP Static High Performance Mode".(Power Management Options -> HP Power Regulator ->HP Static High Performance Mode)

c. Set "Minimum Processor Idle Power Core State" to  "No C-states".(Power Management Options ->Advanced Power Management Options->Minimum Processor Idle Power core State -> No C-States )

d. Set "Minimum Processor Idle Power Package State" to "No Package state".(Power Management Options ->Advanced Power Management Options->Minimum Processor Idle Power Package State -> No Package State )

e. Set “Memory power savings mode to "Maximum Performance".(Power Management Options ->Advanced Power Management Options-> Memory power savings mode-> Maximum Performance)

Rise of a new issue...

Now we encountered some weirdness across the board with Hardware Status and Sensor Issues. Sensors would lock in updating mode, sensor and log file updates would be unresponsive. The issue would continue after reboots. In some mose cases reboots wouldnt clear and ipmi clear wouldn't help as well. Some systems would get stuck in a loop of erroneous IPMI Log full errors and sensor update stall.

This occured within 20 minutes of doing the ILO Update. The general TShooting procedures in KBs 2011531 and 1033725 didn't cut it. It seems the ilo update creates a new descriptor and sensor ouput that the OS and VCenter can't interpet.

On some systems, I found that I could clear the error by following the below procedure which staved off the issue a little longer.

From VCenter Host View, Select Hardware Status Pane

Select System Event Log View>Reset Event Log (wait for refresh)

Select Alerts and warnings view>then Reset Sensors (wait for refresh)

SSH to host and login as root

run the following commands to clear ipmi logs and restart management services

• localcli hardware ipmi sel clear

• services.sh restart

• Wait for the hiost to come back in VCenter, Give ample time for services to stabalize

• Go to Hosts View in Hardware Status Pane  and select Select System Event Log View> Choose to update

• Errors should now be clear and the sensors should have a few additional entries including "voltage"

When successful you will see the sensors change both in Number and description on the Harware Status Page.

But the long term solution is to update to the new HP ESXi Offline Bundle v 1.7-13.

http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdDetails/?javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.prp_bd9b6997fbc7fc515f4cf4626f5c8d01=wsrp-navigationalState%3Didx%253D2%257CswItem%253DMTX_32a9f1c5f1bf4e8383beba75fe%257CswEnvOID%253D4166%257CitemLocale%253D%257CswLang%253D%257Cmode%253D4%257Caction%253DdriverDocument&javax.portlet.tpst=bd9b6997fbc7fc515f4cf4626f5c8d01&sp4ts.oid=5268291&ac.admitted=1405970913970.876444892.492883150

From End to End the successful process was

1) Flash the ILO with firmware to 1.51

2) Clear IML

3) Clear Sensor\ Hardware status logs and pane (see above)

4) Change the BIOs performance setting to Max Performance as directed

5) Install updated HP ESXi Offline Bundle for VMware vSphere 5.5 v 1.7-13.zip

6) Remove\Re-add from VCenter if needed

Best Wishes

ESXi inside KVM

Hello!

I wonder, if it is possible to run ESXi 5.0/5.1 inside KVM (proxmox) ?

I need to run few for testing purposes. I cannot setup any other virtualization software.

I need only ESXi itself, even without virtual machines inside it:)

Thanks!

Get-EsxImageProfile empty after PowerlCLI console close

$

Hi,

We use ESXi auto deployment to deploy images to our clusters. We noticed as long as we keep the PowerlCLI command window open, the ImageProfile object is there to be used. A Get-EsximageProfile lists all new created profiles. As soon as we close the PowerCLI command window and reopen it, all ImageProfiles are gone. A Get-EsximageProfile displays nothing. All is gone except the deployment rule. Deployment however keeps working.

It's weird we need to recreate the EsxiImageProfile over and over again when we need to make adjustments to the image. Is this normal behavior, or a bug?

Using ESXi and vCenter 5.5 u2, and PowerCLI 5.5 Release 1.

Windows 8.1 login failure on Fusion 7

$

I have just upgraded my MacBook Pro and its Windows 8.1 virtual machine from Fusion 6.04 to Fusion 7. The installation seemed to go well, until VMware Tools upgraded after I logged into Windows and then requested that I reboot. Once I rebooted and tried to log in again, this is the message I got: "The Local Session Manager Service failed the sign-in. The RPC Server attempted an integer division by zero. " Then the login fails, I quickly get a light blue error screen, Windows reboots, but I still can't log in. I've tried restarting Fusion but that doesn't help. Any suggestions?

Edit: I'm running OSX 10.9.5 on a 13' MacBook Pro (late 2013) with Retina, if that helps!

Edit #2: After weighing my options, I decided that the best way to go was to delete my vm and start afresh. Everything installed smoothly, and now my Windows 8.1 vm is fine.

VM Hardware V10

$

when a VM is running hardware version 10 you have to do every change via vCentre which is fine.

however unlike the desktop client you can say use 1 CPU Socket with 2 x CPU Cores.

it would seem that VMware are trying to force the default to be 2 sockets with 1 core on each.

so my question apart from OS Licencing etc, is there any benefit from doing 2 sockets with 1 core instead of 1 socket with 2 cores.

you have to go to advanced and add a value to manually do it, why did VMware limit the ability to set additional cores per cpu via vCentre

Bridge Network Adapters Always Start Disconnected

$

I've been working on this for two weeks with no success.   Everytime I reboot my server, Windows Server 2008 R2 & VmWare Sever 2.02 any VMs that are set to bridged networking boot with their network adapter set as disconnected.  It requires a manual "click" of the checkbox to turn on the network adapter.  I have been using VMware server since version 1 and have never had this problem.  One unusual thing is the Manager Virtual Networks Auto-Bridging doesn't seem to show any network adapters, although networking continues to work.   If I set my VM to NAT or host only my adapter starts connected, as it should.

Things I have tried:

Uninstall VmWare server & Reinstall

Uninstall and create various VM Hosts, all do the same, pre-compiled applicanece and all costum built.

Moved host images to another server (works fine)

Checked to make sure Bridge Protcal is installed on ethernet adapter, even removed and readded.

Uninstalled and reinstalled ethernet adapter (Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller(NDIS6.20)

This is a Windows Server 2008 R2 box with lots of ram  and plenty of resources only running spiceworks & splunk in a test capacity.  Using this machine for testing and pre-deployment but it's virtual machines need to act like they would in production.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
