I've been using Workstation for a while now. As a developer it comes in handy to test app I develop on multiple platforms easily. And the full screening capabilities of the VMs is nice when I'm working with multiple monitors.
However I now need the ability to run a server in the background, which Workstation isn't capable of doing. So I was going to install Server 2 in order to handle that but found out when trying to install it that it won't let me install both at the same time.....
Is there a way to work around this? Seems like a stupid limitation to me since workstation doesn't have the ability to background tasks. As far as I an tell none of the hosted vmware applications have the ability to background a workstation anymore. Highly annoying, I don't want to have to run a 2nd PC with ESXi running on it simply to be able to have a few small VMs running in "background" mode. Server is missing to many of the nice features like the full screen mode, and unity mode, for me to go using only that.
Hopefully someone has a work around for this silly limitation.
